"I have spent the past few years exploring the element of water in my painting—through the traces it leaves as it dries, the life it imparts in its forms, and the breath of its freedom, which demands a total release in the act of painting. In this exploration, I place particular importance on accidents, the unplanned occurrences on my paper, which always guide me forward on the path to discovering unknown territories. "
Swiss and French, the artist Louise Laffaille was born in 1988. Her work aims at stirringly and truthfully measure the moods of water. After her BA in visual art at ECAL, Louise Lafaille received a training in Asian water color at the Art Student League of New York during 4 years.
Fascinated by water, Louise Lafaille‘s new series RAIN PAINTINGS and WAVES PAINTINGS, integrate the uncontrollable aspect of natural elements in her creative process. Rain drops, sea waves, are marking themselves into her paintings, capturing a moment, a trace of this blue gold. In those series, the brush-strokes often get erased under the rain, the confluence takes place between the force and delicacy of water and the gesture of painting.
In Louise Lafaille‘s artistic approach, the natural elements becomes a co-creator of her work, revealing their own beauty and mystery in the space of painting while emphasising the need of preserving them.
The work of Louise Lafaille has been shown in New York and Europe, recently at Galerie Telmah in Rouen, Galerie Univers Lausanne, Art 345 New York and at First Street Gallery where she won the National Jury Competition . In France Louise Lafaille won the artist residency at the Castle of La Napoule where her work was exhibited.
